Speaking for a tired nation, Nicki Minaj says she “hates” the Drake-Meek Mill feud
Capturing the sentiments of a weary nation, exhausted by endless strings of diss verses and factionalized fast food restaurants, rapper Nicki Minaj has spoken out on The Great Drake-Meek Mill feud of 2015. Girlfriend of Mill and label-mate to Drake, Minaj told The New York Times Magazine (Motto: All The Beef That’s Fit To Print) that she “hates” the ongoing feud between the two (as well as the potentially much more serious one between Lil Wayne and his former partner, Bryan “Birdman” Williams). “It doesn’t make me feel good,” she told interviewer Vanessa Grigoriadis. “You don’t ever want to choose sides between people you love. It’s ridiculous. I just want it to be over.”
Minaj’s success was used as fuel during an earlier phase of the Mill-Drake conflict, with Drake lyrically questioning whether Mill was on “a world tour, or your girl’s tour.” (Mills responded with a rap about someone once peeing on Drake, otherwise known as a Formal Rap Declaration of War.) But Minaj—whose own conflicts with Taylor Swift and Miley Cyrus are touched in on the profile, and whose empowerment is categorized with the amazing note that her lyrics involve “describing her vagina with more words than [Grigoriadis] thought existed, and then amplifying its power by rhyming those words”—was also very clear that she isn’t on this planet to speak to the conflicts of “grown-ass men.”
Grigoriadis learned this the hard way, when further questions about whether the “Anaconda” performer “thrives on drama” caused Minaj to label her as “rude,” and a “troublemaker,” leading to the abrupt ending of the interview. And thus was a new beef, between the brilliant coiffed rapper and the old Grey Lady, born upon this earth.
