Spider-man musical gets a title, debut date
Spider-man, Turn Off The Dark, the long-discussed Spider-man Broadway musical, will debut at New York's Hilton Theatre on February 18, 2010. A disaster in the making, right? Maybe not. The talent behind it includes director Julie Taymor, the creative force behind the clever Lion King movie and the surprisingly terrific movie Across The Universe. And the songs come from Bono and The Edge of the somewhat-liked Irish band U2. But what of the plot? That remain cryptic in the latest press release from Marvel:
Spider-Man's battles will hurtle the audience through an origin story both recognizable and unexpected—yielding new characters as well as familiar faces—until a final surprising confrontation casts a startling new light on this hero's journey.
Our guess: J. Jonah Jameson is actually his dad.
At any rate, it has to be better than than the Shrek musical, right? (To get to the highlights, start around 3:25):
