Spidey's alive and Mysterio's kicking ass in the first Far From Home trailer

We’ve got no clue how Peter Parker will come back from the dead next year, but at least we know what he’ll be doing afterward: Going on vacay, buds! Sony dropped the first trailer for its new Spidey flick Far From Home this morning, and director Jon Watts appears to have replicated the youthful color, explosive action, and millennial humor he brought to Homecoming for his sequel.

“Europe doesn’t really need a friendly neighborhood Spider-Man,” Tom Holland’s Peter Parker tells Aunt May (Marisa Tomei) while packing for an international trip with his pals (including Zendaya’s MJ). As the old saying goes, however: You plan, God laughs. Soon, a gargantuan Hydro-Man is laying waste to the vintage architecture as Samuel L. Jackson’s Nick Fury is crashing Peter’s hostel.

Stick around and you’ll catch what we’ve all been waiting for: Our first look at Jake Gyllenhaal’s Mysterio. While many have speculated that the illusionist will serve as Spidey’s chief antagonist, the trailer points to what could be a reluctant union.

Spider-Man: Far From Home debuts on July 5, 2019, just two months after Avengers: Endgame.
