Spielberg developing meta-musical for Showtime

Extending a relationship with Showtime that began with The United States Of Tara, Steven Spielberg and DreamWorks TV are currently developing a scripted TV series that will deal with what it takes to mount a Broadway musical, from the original idea to opening night. And though this is a scripted series—not a reality show—Spielberg and company are planning to stage the actual musical on actual Broadway when the series is complete. Songwriters Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman (currently working on the musical version of Spielberg's movie Catch Me If You Can) will be helping with the music, and it's understood that any difficulties faced by the real Broadway production could be written into the Showtime version. At present both projects—the real show and the fake show about the real show—are in the early stages, and have no title or due date.
