Splat! Here’s a supercut of sound effects work in Tarantino films

Quentin Tarantino is a director who cares a lot about sound design, a fact that can sometimes get overlooked in favor of his distinctive visual style. Like his visual aesthetic, Tarantino’s preferences in sound design are not exactly subtle, but they are uniquely emphatic, with great care and detail put into the smallest of effects. This is a guy who will make his sound effects team spend extra time recording echoes in the desert just to get the a whipcrack the way he likes it, according to Wylie Stateman, the director’s longtime supervising sound editor.

That’s a dedication that surely extends to the Foley work that makes up much of this supercut of the filmmaker’s sound effects by Vimeo user Jacob T. Swinney. “Hearing Tarantino” is a brief highlight of the many zips, rings, squelches and other forceful sound effects that tie the director’s pop-pulp creations together.
