Is it really possible to spoil a film with a “to be continued…” non-ending? Or one where the “twists” are all derivative of other, more famous sci-fi movies? As it turns out, the aliens are mostly drones serving a queen—who’s basically the queen alien from Aliens, but also like an evil kaiju from a Godzilla movie—and there are more alien species out there, who are waiting for humanity to come join them in the fight against the bad aliens. (At this point, the Independence Day would-be franchise would be well advised to come up with some species names.) The world is saved, the real battle is yet to come, the little dog lives, President Whitmore dies delivering a bomb to the mothership, and The A.V. Club puts up a Spoiler Space because intrusive transmissions in an indecipherable language—er, commenters—asked for it.
