Spoon’s new record is coming in August

Spoon’s first new record in four years, They Want My Soul, will hit stores and the Internet Aug. 5, with the band’s first single coming later this month. Britt Daniel and company stopped by NPR to talk to All Songs Considered host Bob Boilen about the record, with the whole interview streaming over on NPR’s site. There’s not a ton of concrete info available for the masses, but, basically, the details are thus: The band took a break (during which Daniel spent time in Divine Fits), added new member Alex Fischel, and is coming back with a confident and “looser” record—at least in terms of songs—with extra synths. The record also features an Ann-Margret cover (“I Just Don’t Understand”) and marks the first time the band has worked with outside producers.
