Stan Lee is making a Bollywood movie about an Indian superhero
It would probably be pretty easy for a guy like Stan Lee to rest on his laurels. The ever-expanding network of movies based on his creations has been hugely successful, and it’s scheduled to keep gobbling up the entertainment budgets of people all round the world well into the future. Even so, the legendary comic book creator has announced that he’s developing a Bollywood movie based on his Chakra The Invincible character, proving that there’s no empire so big it can’t keep growing until everybody bursts joyously into song.
Lee first introduced the world to his Indian superhero with a 2011 comic series. It follows the exploits of teenager Raju Rai, a scientific genius living in Mumbai who uses a technologically enhanced suit to activate the mystical chakras in his body. Blessed with newfound powers, Rai vows to protect Mumbai from evildoers like his arch-enemy, Boss Yama.
Lee, together with Graphic India and his own POW! Entertainment, produced an animated Chakra movie that ran on Cartoon Network India in 2013. Unlike that movie, the live-action Bollywood film will feature a more grown-up version of the character, and Lee is enthusiastic about its prospects. “We’ve set up some great meetings already with some of the most amazingly talented actors and directors in Indian cinema, and I have no doubt that these individuals will help make the Chakra film a massive hit in India and around the globe.” Look for Lee to make a cameo during the post-credits dance sequence.
