Stan Lee to adapt Romeo And Juliet graphic novel into a movie (yes, you read that right)
According to Lionsgate, anyway, you can never have too many lovelorn adolescents of the dystopian future killing reluctantly and dying tragically. The studio—which recently announced its intention to squeeze a little more life from Suzanne Collins’ Hunger Games trilogy in the form of prequels—is now working with Stan Lee’s POW! Entertainment and Terry Dougas’ 1821 Media to adapt their graphic novel Romeo And Juliet: The War for the screen.
The 2012 New York Times bestseller, created by Lee and Douglas and written and illustrated by Max Work and Skan Srisuwan, respectively, is a reimagining of William Shakespeare’s tragic tale of star-crossed lovers amid warring families of superhuman soldiers. “What a treat it is to finally announce our partnership with Lionsgate on a project,” Lee gushes to Variety. “The story of Romeo And Juliet is one of my absolute favorites, and I can’t wait to bring our rendition of this classic to life.”
