Star Trek Beyond’s Justin Lin is rebooting SWAT for CBS

Coming off a solid contribution to a venerable sci-fi franchise, Justin Lin’s been picking up a lot of legacy work. The Star Trek Beyond director has already accepted offers to direct the Space Jam sequel and a new Highlander movie. But the Scorpion producer still has a lens focused on the small screen, as he recently signed on to helm Cinemax’s Warrior, a series based on the life of Bruce Lee. And it looks like the Fast Five director has just been handed the keys to another property, albeit one of a slightly lower profile.

Cinemablend reports that CBS has just tapped Lin for the SWAT reboot that’s already snared Shawn Ryan (The Shield). The original series ran for two seasons on ABC, from 1975-1976, and was itself a spin-off of The Rookies. It starred Steve Forrest and Robert Urich as Lt. “Hondo” Harrleson and Sgt. Jim Street, members of a SWAT team—what else?—in an unnamed California city. The cop drama got the Hollywood treatment in 2003, when Clark Johnson directed Samuel L. Jackson and Colin Farrell as a Hondo and Street for the new millennium.

Lin is producing and directing the pilot, which is being written by frequent Fast And Furious flyer/producer Neal H. Moritz and Sleepy Hollows Aaron Rashaan Thomas.
