Star Trek: Discovery pays an eventful visit to Saru’s home planet

Here’s what’s happening in the world of television for Thursday, February 21. All times are Eastern.

Top pick

Star Trek: Discovery (CBS All Access, 8:30 p.m.): Last week’s Discovery was a doozy, with a couple heightened emotional fakeouts, the unexpected return of a major character, and several other crises. Not all of it worked, but you can’t say it wasn’t significant stuff. How to follow that up?

Yeah, a huge revelation for Saru (the great Doug Jones), a nightmarish new species, and Burnham (Sonequa Martin-Green) in stunned horror ought to do the trick. Zack Handlen will report back from Saru’s home planet with his recap.

Regular coverage

Brooklyn Nine-Nine (NBC, 9 p.m.)
The Orville (Fox, 9 p.m.)
How To Get Away With Murder (ABC, 10 p.m.)
Broad City (Comedy Central, 10 p.m.)

Wild card

Flack (Pop, 10 p.m.): If like TNT, Shea Coulée, and Heather from Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, you just love drama, then we humbly submit Flack for your consideration. If you don’t, it’s worth a look anyway, for the cast alone. Starring Anna Pacquin, Sophie Okonedo, Marc Warren, Bradley Whitford, Rebecca Benson, and others, Flack follows Robyn (Pacquin), a steel-veined publicist whose personal life is as messy or messier than the messy lives of the famous people whose messes she must constantly clean up.

The six-episode limited series premieres tonight.
