Star Trek: Discovery producer says Michelle Yeoh has joined the cast

Coming Soon is reporting on a recent conversation with Star Trek: Discovery producer Nicholas Meyer, in which Meyer revealed that Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon star Michelle Yeoh has joined the cast of the CBS series. Meyer—who’s directed three Star Trek films, including The Wrath Of Khan—was in the middle of a discussion of his 1979 movie Time After Time when he dropped the Star Trek news, saying, “I know Michelle Yeoh is in it.”

Discovery has been keeping a close lid on its casting efforts, with most people theorizing that the producers were holding off on announcing anything until the show had snagged its much-discussed lead, “Number One.” It’s not clear if Yeoh—a veteran martial arts performer who recently starred in the Crouching Tiger sequel, Sword Of Destiny, as well as Netflix’s Marco Polo and Mechanic: Resurrection—will be playing that role, or if she’ll fill some other part of the ship’s still-unannounced crew. Either way, it’s our first bit of real evidence that at least some part of the series is still moving forward in a concrete way, after producer Bryan Fuller stepped down as its showrunner last month due to scheduling concerns.
