Star Wars Blu-ray: Come for the deleted scenes, stay for the possible Carrie Fisher cocaine stories
Another year, another opportunity to refill George Lucas’ already-overflowing coffers with doubloons as you shell out for another Star Wars: The Limitedest Edition-y Edition and, in accordance with his wishes, cast the previous inferior model right into the fire. But as we’ve been hearing for nearly a year now, the new Blu-ray editions will contain more than just the digital remastering and CGI correction of history’s mistakes that automatically makes a film better: It’s also got some new stuff, and today Lucasfilm has released the below list of just what that new stuff will entail—because it's Star Wars Day, and what better way to celebrate that fact than with an Amazon pre-order?
Anyway, in addition to stuff previously reported on, like whole discs devoted to deleted and alternate scenes from all three Star Wars movies and those other ones, there’s also a collection of Star Wars-related documentaries, including one looking at “Star Wars costume enthusiasts” in a non-sexual way and another that simply collects clips of the various Star Wars parodies from over the years, in case you don’t have YouTube. But perhaps most interesting of all: Six full hours of commentary from Carrie Fisher, who will hopefully derail any dull technical nattering from Lucas and sound designer Ben Burtt with anecdotes about how, in this scene, she was totally blown up on some really top-notch coke. Could that alone be worth the $140 price tag?
