Star Wars gets a Suicide Squad-style makeover

As far as remixed trailers go, this new Suicide Squad/Star Wars mashup is good, but not quite as good as the Guardians Of The Galaxy/Star Wars mashup YouTube user The Unusual Suspect released two years ago. Admittedly, the channel set a pretty high bar for itself with that one. And while there’s a less obvious tonal connection between D.C.’s upcoming villain-centric film and the original Star Wars trilogy, The Unusual Suspect makes it work by splicing together the trilogy’s biggest explosions and snarkiest lines into one action-packed trailer.

The fake “Star Squad” trailer is based on the Suicide Squad “Blitz Trailer” (a.k.a. not the one with “Bohemian Rhapsody”), which means the antics of Luke, Leia, and Han are set to both Lesley Gore’s “You Don’t Own Me” and Sweet’s “The Ballroom Blitz.” Interestingly, the mashup doesn’t draw the obvious parallel between Suicide Squad’s skeevy shot of Harley Quinn changing clothes and the many skeevy shots of Princess Leia in her slave bikini, which means The Unusual Suspect has far more restraint than Hollywood does.
