Stellan Skarsgard joins the American remake of The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo

Swede Stellan Skarsgard has joined the cast of David Fincher’s Sweden-set, English-language remake of the Swedish film The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, reports Cinematical. Skarsgard will play Martin Vanger, one of many Vanger family suspects in a murder investigation conducted by Daniel Craig’s journalist Mikael Blomkvist. For funsies, maybe Fincher will lock in Alexander Skarsgard as the younger Martin Vanger. Meanwhile, the search for America’s next top female badass in film is still on with new rumors that the girl with the dragon tattoo, a.k.a. Lisbeth Salander, will be played by either Rooney Mara or Emily Browning. (Seriously, why not Ellen Page or Carey Mulligan?)

Sony is set to release Dragon Tattoo in  December 2011, with confirmation from Skarsgard that his filming contract will extend from September to March with most of the filming taking place in Stockholm. According to Deadline, screenwriter Steven Zaillian will soon be hard at work adapting the sequel, The Girl Who Played With Fire, with Sony seemingly moving toward back-to-back filming.
