Step Up actor cast in Richard Linklater’s “spiritual sequel” to Dazed And Confused
Step Up All In star Ryan Guzman has been cast in That’s What I’m Talking About, Richard Linklater’s next project after the critically acclaimed Boyhood. The movie takes place over the course of a college weekend in the 1980s, as freshman students try out for a spot on the school’s baseball team, presumably while learning about life, love, and themselves. And then maybe a rival baseball crew shows up, and they have to do fancy, elaborately choreographed baseball moves to make them all be friends, so that everyone can team up to save the local library or rec center or whatever.
The film has been referred to by Linklater as a “spiritual sequel” to Dazed And Confused, the director’s influential 1993 movie about the chaos and excitement of high school life. Both films were also influenced by Linklater’s experiences growing up—although it remains to be seen whether That’s What I’m Talking About will be able to give statutory rapists an aspirational figure as motivating as Dazed’s Wooderson.
