Stephen Colbert and Allison Janney lend their adult-soothing voices to Mr. Peabody And Sherman update
As you can see from the above image, DreamWorks has begun working in earnest on rendering Rocky And Bullwinkle company players Mr. Peabody And Sherman into 3-D computer animation, finally replacing the flat, '60s-era, hand-drawn animation that the Civil Rights movement worked so hard to eradicate. Now it's time to add the celebrity voices that are proven to release endorphins in adults, which allow them to sit through family movies without questioning all of the life decisions that have led them to this point—celebrities such as Stephen Colbert and Allison Janney, two grown-ups whose recognizably arch cadences will remind adult viewers of the soothing, more sophisticated fare that prevents them from wishing they'd been sterilized.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Colbert will play Mr. Peabody's "nemesis," Paul Peterson, with Janney as his wife Paula, as both of them join a cast that also includes Modern Family's Ty Burrell as Mr. Peabody and The Amazing Spider-Man's Max Charles as Sherman, Burrell's Modern Family co-star Ariel Winter as Penny Peterson, plus as-yet-unspecified roles for The Office's Ellie Kemper and character actor MVP Stephen Tobolowsky. Listen for them and think of the other things they've done that you enjoy, rather than how you wouldn't be surrounded by squirming children at a Saturday night showing of Mr. Peabody And Sherman if only you'd stayed single.
