Stephen Colbert riffs on the horrors of Trump’s proposed budget
During his monologue last night, Stephen Colbert tackled Trump’s budget proposal—which either contains a massive error or a big old lie, take your pick—to explain just how evil it really is. Upon noting that the budget will cut funding for food stamps and children’s health insurance, Colbert said: “I know this is an unpopular opinion these days, but I believe children should go to the doctor and eat.” Now that’s the kind of bold statement that is keeping him at the top of the late-night heap.
Colbert went on to riff on how the budget is set to negatively impact Trump’s own voters, unveiling what he believes should be the president’s new slogan: ”Make the poor eat squirrel meat again.” He also described how we could all be at the mercy to whatever plague is ailing Steve Bannon. “The budget also calls for major cuts to the Centers For Disease Control,” Colbert said. “So whenever that thing inside Steve Bannon bursts out and goes airborne, we will not be prepared to handle it.” A terrifying thought, though not as terrifying as reality.
