Stephen Colbert says Russian intelligence followed him during his trip
Stephen Colbert has returned to American shores after his jaunt to Russia, where he made a crack about mounting a presidential campaign and apparently was followed by intelligence personnel. “You know who did know I was in Russia? Russian intelligence,” he said during his monologue on The Late Show last night. “Hardcore fans, evidently. Followed me everywhere. Also got some attention from American intelligence. A couple of guys seemed to pop up wherever we went.”
Colbert, of course, managed to spin this into a dig on the president before turning his attention to Trump fully. ”But it’s important to keep your eye on a comedian while he’s in Russia. Doing jokes,” he said. ”I could be giving state secrets to the Russians. Oh wait, someone’s already got that covered. My apologies.” Through the apparent jet lag, Colbert did, however, remark that “it is sincerely wonderful to be back in America,” even if the topics of conversation aren’t straying far from the country he just visited.
