Stephen Colbert loves public access television. In fact, he loves it so much that he filled in as the host of Monroe, Michigan’s (Population: 20,733) public-access talk show Only In Monroe during his down time between The Colbert Report and The Late Show. And Adam Driver loves his hometown of Mishawaka, Indiana (Population: 48,252), even if he objected to being forced to pay 50 cents for a packet of mayonnaise in his high-school cafeteria—a protest that made the local paper, because that’s how small towns work.
So it made sense for the two to come together when Driver visited The Late Show With Stephen Colbert last night to promote his roles in Martin Scorsese’s Silence and Jim Jarmusch’s Paterson, an appearance where he also talked about his onscreen mom Carrie Fisher. From there, the tone shifted from serious to silly, as Colbert and Driver sat down for a pun-laden rundown of the month’s events in the greater Mishawaka area, including a mushy-sounding Elks Club dinner, some mystery skulls, and Chad bringing a sled to an inner tube fight.
