Steve Carell is in talks for the Minecraft movie
Variety reports that Steve Carell is in talks to star in Warner Bros.’ long-in-development Minecraft movie. If he takes the part, Carell will be the first big name to land on the high-profile video game adaptation, aside from It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia’s Rob McElhenney, who’s attached to write and direct.
Warner Bros. has been working on Minecraft for years now, since back when the game was still the hottest thing on playgrounds nation-wide. But while fervor for the block-busting tree-punching simulation has naturally declined in the five years since its official release, Carell’s casting could lend the movie some much-needed clout. The 40-Year-Old Virgin star has been on a career hotstreak of late, earning acclaim for dramatic roles in movies like Foxcatcher and The Big Short.
Minecraft is currently scheduled for a May 24, 2019 release.
