Steve Carell is down for another Anchorman movie
Steve Carrell’s been pushing his dramatic boundaries ever since departing NBC’s The Office, having evolved into an honest-to-goodness Oscar contender with his turns in Foxcatcher, Vice, and Beautiful Boy. One of his most iconic roles, however, is decidedly, well, simpler. As dim weatherman Brick Tamland in the Anchorman movies, Carrell scored laughs simply by staring dumbly into the middle distance. So, yeah, of course he wants to reprise that role.
“If they make another one, I’ll do another one,” Carrell told Variety, more or less acknowledging that the Anchorman movies are to him what the Grown-Ups franchise is to Adam Sandler. “Those are really fun. That’s just hanging out with friends and being silly.”
Granted, director Adam McKay made it fairly clear after Anchorman 2 that the story was finished. “It’s done,” he said at the time, and, well, it doesn’t really get more definitive than that. There is, however, Will Ferrell’s Ron Burgundy Podcast, which Carrell is also open to. “Sure, if he wants me to come in and say some non-sequiturs as Brick, of course. I would in a second,” he said.
That’s gotta be at least a little bit easier than occupying the mind of Donald Rumsfeld, after all.
