Steve Martin and Martin Short are still actual best friends

If there is one universally accepted truth, it’s that celebrities are not real people and we should stop relying on them for anything resembling insight, compassion, or honesty. When two famous people say they’re friends, it’s best to interpret that not as them being genuine confidants, but rather that they occasionally do cocaine together.

That said, it’s hard to argue with the camaraderie Steve Martin and Martin Short displayed on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon last night. In addition to starring together in the likes of Saturday Night Live, Three Amigos, and The Father Of The Bride, the pair have a Netflix special, An Evening You Will Forget For The Rest Of Your Life, airing later this month. To gauge just how close the two are, Fallon giggily subjected them to the “Best Friends Challenge,” the show’s spin on The Newlywed Game.

As Fallon cackles his way through the questions, Martin and Short crack a series of hilarious, low-key jokes and even inadvertently share the bones of a story that involves Martin slapping Barry Manilow. They didn’t get many questions right, but the manner with which their comedic sensibilities ping off each other is as delightful as Martin correcting the grammar on the Best Friends’ Box.

An Evening You Will Forget For The Rest Of Your Life premieres on May 25th.
