Sting to reopen Paris’ Bataclan with charity concert
Back in April, we reported that Pete Doherty would be the first musician to headline at Paris’ Bataclan concert hall since the deadly terrorist attack last year during an Eagles Of Death Metal show, but now CNN is reporting that the venue will be holding its official reopening prior to that show with special tribute performance from Sting. In a post on Sting’s website, he explains that all proceeds from the concert will go to Life For Paris and 13 Novembre: Fraternité Verité, two charities that raise money for the victims of the attack and their families. The concert will be held on November 12, and you can buy tickets at this link.
Regarding the concert, Sting said this in a statement:
In re-opening the Bataclan, we have two important tasks to reconcile. First, to remember and honor those who lost their lives in the attack a year ago, and second to celebrate the life and the music that this historic theater represents. In doing so we hope to respect the memory as well as the life-affirming spirit of those who fell. We shall not forget them.
CNN adds that “security has been beefed up for the occasion,” with new cameras inside and outside the venue as well as the increased presence of police officers and security personnel. The day after Sting’s concert, on the actual anniversary of the attack, survivors and the members of Eagles Of Death Metal will hold a tribute ceremony and unveil a plaque of the victims’ names.
