Straight Outta Compton’s Corey Hawkins to race against the clock in 24: Legacy
When Fox recently announced its intentions to revive the 24 franchise, the network also had to break the news that this new day would not rise and fall with Jack Bauer, portrayed for years by Kiefer Sutherland. The series will still (mostly) follow the actions of a Counter Terrorist Unit agent, and Deadline reports that Straight Outta Compton’s Corey Hawkins will do the bone-snapping honors going forward.
Hawkins has been cast as Eric Carter, an Army Ranger who returns home to Virginia to find that he hasn’t left the war (or whatever international conflict) behind him. To stop one of the “largest-scale terror attacks on American soil,” Carter will team up with the CTU, which probably won’t feature any holdovers from previous seasons in anything beyond photos. But what 24: Legacy will have that was purportedly missing from its previous iteration is a strong female lead—in this case, a “woman with a long history at the agency and former head of CTU.” This iron-willed lady hasn’t been cast yet, but she will be written by 24 scribes Manny Coto and Evan Katz.
