Stranger Things' Gaten Matarazzo is now also pursuing his rock-star dreams
The children of hit Netflix series Stranger Things are devoted to more than dressing up in faded jeans and continually saving their town from multidimensional danger. They are also, apparently without exception, set on achieving rock music stardom.
While earlier this week the show’s Finn Wolfhard (who plays in Vancouver’s Calpurnia) starred as “Danny Sexbang” in a music video for a band called, god forgive us, “Ninja Sex Party,” another miniature rock boy has emerged from the cast: Gaten Matarazzo.
Matarazzo, it turns out, is in a band called Work In Progress along with his sister, Sabrina. And now, because everyone famous knows each other, Gaten, Sabrina, and their brother Carmen appeared on stage with Paramore last night. This very strange thing was able to come together due to a Work In Progress audience member’s video of the Matarazzos covering Paramore’s “Misery Business” late last year.
Soon, Hayley Williams reached out:
One thing led to another and now we have yet another young actor turning our naive, acting-only impressions of them upside down by grabbing guitars and jumping around with microphones.
Wolfhard and Matarazzo aren’t even the only Stranger Things cast members to successfully form bands—there’s also Joe Keery, who plays delinquent-with-a-heart-of-gold Steve on set and guitar in a group called Post Animal. Let’s cross our fingers for a complete return to cultural nostalgia with a David Harbour trip-hop album or Winona Ryder and Millie Bobby Brown joining forces to spearhead a nü-metal revival.
