Stranger Things’ Millie Bobby Brown wanted to play a superpowered girl in Logan, too

Although she broke out in Stranger Things last year, Millie Bobby Brown has been taking her time cultivating her résumé. It seems she’s only signing on for similarly badass roles, like the one she recently nabbed in Godzilla: King Of Monsters. Okay, so we don’t really know whether the erstwhile Eleven will go toe to toe with kaiju, but there’s a good chance that the young actress who admits she once failed to muster up the proper enthusiasm for a Barbie commercial will be doing more than just running for her life. After all, before she landed that monster gig, she was auditioning to hit the road with Hugh Jackman and Patrick Stewart in Logan, Variety reports.

As part of the publication’s “Actors on Actors” interview series, Brown spoke with Westworld star Evan Rachel Wood about auditioning for the role of Laura Kinney, a.k.a. X-23, in James Mangold’s Logan. Brown was appropriately pumped about the opportunity, and got psyched by telling herself: ‘It’s going to be amazing.” She ultimately lost out to Dafne Keen, who so embodied the role that Mangold’s already thinking of a spin-off. Nonetheless, Brown prepared extensively for the role, and says it wasn’t until she was smacking Jackman around as his offspring that she felt like a true thespian: “Honestly, for me, I felt so—I felt an actor, in the audition room, hitting Hugh Jackman, and James Mangold sitting right in front of me.” As excited as she was, though, the ever-charming Brown lauds Keen’s performance, telling Wood and Variety: “I watched [Logan]; she was incredible.”
