Instead of waiting to add enough tracks for a proper follow-up to 2012’s The Only Place, Bethany Cosentino and Bobb Bruno of Best Coast have opted to release a “mini-album” next week. Fade Away strikes a middle ground that’s a bit longer than a traditional EP but not quite a full-length record. The group has been slowly teasing out the release by debuting several of the new tracks over the last few months, but now all seven songs are available to stream via SoundCloud. “This Lonely Morning” and “Fear Of My Identity” should fit in alongside the usual live staples, while the sun-soaked surf-punk of “I Wanna Know” contrasts with the decidedly old-school crooner “I Don’t Know How.” As the weather begins to change, consider this one last gasp of summer to hold onto throughout the winter.
