Earlier this year, Deep Time changed its name from Yellow Fever after another band called Yellow Fever threatened to sue. Changing a band’s name, especially compounded with the threat of legal action, can be a bit of a shakeup, and fortunately Deep Time used all that strife to step up its musical game. The Austin duo has more or less left behind its minimalist, slightly folky leanings, diving deep into complex rhythms and heavy jams. Indie-rock elder statesman and fan Ian Svenonius (Nation Of Ulysses, The Make-Up, Chain And The Gang) wrote its bio, saying that while Deep Time’s not “garish” and “don’t wear kabuki make-up or pour PBR” on their heads, it's a “sweet ride” all the same, producing a record on which every song “is a bon-a-fide catastrophe for the forces of predictability and boredom.” The A.V. Club seconds that emotion and is hosting an exclusive stream of the band’s new record, Deep Time, due out July 10 on Hardly Art.
