Streep and Kidman face off in the new Big Little Lies season 2 trailer
Summer used to be a bit of a vacant lot for prime TV watching, but that was before HBO’s prestige mini-series. Like last year, with the hypnotically humid Sharp Objects—and the year before that, which brought us the sublime Big Little Lies. So sublime, in fact, that the contained series is now headed back to the small screen for a second season. Season one began and ended with a mysterious murder; from the new trailer released today, season two will focus on the cover-up of said murder and how the weight of that secret is affecting Monterey’s tight-knit mom community.
Newly on board to potentially bust everything wide open: Meryl Streep playing the mother of Perry, who wants to know what happened to her son. The formidable matriarch stands off against Nicole Kidman’s still-healing Nicole, and it’s a bit of a thrill just to see these two acting powerhouses in the same frame. (Sure, they were both in The Hours, but they never crossed paths in their varying Virginia Woolf timelines.) Also back on board: Reese Witherspoon, Laura Dern, Shaileen Woodley, Zoë Kravitz, Adam Scott, and Robin Weigert, to name just a few. The season two premiere date of June 9 can’t come soon enough, as far as we’re concerned.
