Strike Of Death
Part of a series of Jackie Chan reissues, this little-seen film from 1975 finds the current media sensation paired with superstar director John Woo. As exciting as the combination sounds, viewers should be advised that Strike Of Death (also known as Hand Of Death and previously issued under that title in subtitled form) is a fairly routine entry into the chop-and-grunt genre of '70s kung fu movies that used to play perpetually on Sunday-afternoon cable. Though repackaged as a Chan vehicle, he has only a supporting role, and Woo fans won't find a hint of what his future action films have to offer. What might appear to be the Rosetta Stone of Hong Kong action films is simply an example of two future giants learning their trade.
