Stuntman injured on The Walking Dead has died

Yesterday we reported that stuntman John Bernecker was gravely injured on the set of The Walking Dead, which is currently in production for its eighth season. In a statement, AMC Networks indicated Bernecker, who’d recently worked on Logan and Black Panther, was taken to an Atlanta hospital for the “serious injuries” he sustained while on set, and production had been halted. Now Variety reports that Bernecker has died after falling “more than 20 feet off a balcony onto a concrete floor.” The Coweta County Coroner said the cause of death was “blunt force trauma due to his fall.” A SAG-AFTRA spokesperson told Variety that the organization is investigating the tragic accident.

Bernecker had more than 90 stunt credits on IMDb—in addition to Logan and Black Panther, he’d also worked on 24: Legacy, Get Out, Keanu, Into The Badlands, Old Boy, and the forthcoming Game Night. He also had small roles in Logan, Goosebumps, and American Ultra.
