Sub Pop screwed up some of its Father John Misty records by trying too hard
Sub Pop is recalling a number of deluxe Father John Misty I Love You, Honeybear records, after the “dioramic, meta-musical funtime gatefold jacket”—which is actually pretty impressive, and featured in the video below—caused the actual records inside to warp. (Sucks you went for that packaging Grammy, Sub Pop!) According to a note on the label’s site, “the extra, bulging thickness of the pop-up art in the Father John Misty jacket creates a lump that, when the LPs are sealed and packed, pushes into the LPs, causing the vinyl to warp and making that handsome, painstakingly and expensively produced jacket an elaborate record-destroying device.” Those who purchased the warped LPs can return them for “100 percent non-warped, colored-vinyl LPs,” free of charge. And, thank heaven, Sub Pop says it’ll attempt to “be less ambitious in the future.”
