Sufjan Stevens dropping a new Christmas record down everyone's chimneys this November
Everyone’s suspicions were true: Sufjan Stevens is releasing a Christmas album this year. Silver & Gold: Songs For Christmas, Volumes 6-10 hits chimneys Nov. 13 through Asthmatic Kitty.
The record contains material recorded from 2006 to 2010 and is a follow up to Stevens’ 2006 Christmas record, which collected his first five friends-and-family-only holiday EPs. Silver & Gold features The National’s Aaron and Bryce Dessner, Arcade Fire’s Richard Reed Parry, members of Danielson, and others. The first single, “Christmas Unicorn,” is out now and streaming below.
The music isn’t the only joyous part of the release, though, as it comes packaged with all sorts of holiday treats, including stickers, temporary tattoos, a holiday ornament, lyric sheets, chord cards, “hallucinogenic photographs and psychedelic graphic design” by Stevens, and an “apocalyptic” poster to get you in the spirit. The vinyl box set (release date TBD) will also come complete with a coloring book featuring images like a Sons Of Anarchy-style Santa getting inked by a guy wearing an anarchy patch.
