Sufjan Stevens is releasing a live album from his Carrie & Lowell tour

Asthmatic Kitty Records revealed today that Sufjan Stevens is releasing Carrie & Lowell Live, a concert album with an accompanying video component on YouTube and Vimeo. The material is derived from a North Carolina stop on Stevens’ tour in support of his most recent album, titled, yes, Carrie & Lowell.

When it came out in 2015, Carrie & Lowell garnered an A from The A.V. Club. In the review we wrote that it “finds Sufjan Stevens sitting down for a long conversation with Death, and he’s brought just minimal accompaniment: gentle acoustic guitar, occasional piano, virtually no drums.” So, yeah, it’s a pretty brutal meditation on mortality. But the live version will at least feature a fun coda: The encore is a cover of Drake’s “Hotline Bling” performed with Gallant. Carrie & Lowell Live will be available April 28.
