Sufjan Stevens just up and releases new EP, like an hour ago, without telling anyone first

It’s been nearly five years since Sufjan Stevens’ Illinois, and in the meantime he’s done little but dick around with Christmas carols and multimedia symphonies about freeways and drop hints that he’s doing albums with The National. We still don’t have any idea if or when that last thing is coming out, but we can point you to Stevens’ new All Delighted People EP, which snuck its way onto the Internet this morning.

Calling it an EP is a bit misleading, considering the thing runs 60 minutes—but in grand Sufjan Stevens tradition, that’s because most of the songs are really fucking long. According to the press release, it’s “built around two different versions of Sufjan’s long-form epic ballad ‘All Delighted People,’ a dramatic homage to the Apocalypse, existential ennui, and Paul Simon’s ‘Sounds of Silence,’” and it also includes “the 17-minute guitar jam-for-single-mothers ‘Djohariah,’” and a “gothic piano ballad.” So yeah, invite your bros over, head to the nearest parking lot, crack some brewskis, and crank that shit up.
