Sufjan Stevens to score indie film Call Me By Your Name

Sufjan Stevens’ Fifty States Project has been stalled for the last decade or so while he does other critically acclaimed things, but rather than spending his free time on that protracted, gimmicky project, he’s decided to do something a little more straightforward. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Stevens is writing and recording the soundtrack to director Luca Guadagnino’s indie film Call Me By Your Name. The movie stars Armie Hammer as an American scholar visiting Italy in the ‘80s who “attracts the attention of a 17-year-old Jewish-American boy,” and despite the fact that we live in 2017 now, it’s billed as a “gay love story” and not just a “love story.”

THR says the film will start hitting the festival circuit this month, but there’s no word on a release date for Stevens’ soundtrack.
