Suicide Squad to totally fuck you up with hardcore PG-13 rating

Ever since the initial trailer for David Ayer’s upcoming DC comic-book adaptation Suicide Squad first surfaced, the whole ad campaign has been, roughly (and we’re paraphrasing here): “Fuck yeah! Badass supervillain team-up action comin’ at ya hardcore-style, motherfuckers!” Indeed, meeting a whole crew of what seemed to be smoking, swearing, violent criminals, hell-bent on doing as much damage as possible, lent an air of not-your-parents’-superhero-movie vibe to it all. And now, it’s confirmed that the film will, indeed, be just raw as fuck: Entertainment Weekly confirms the Motion Picture Association of America has slapped the movie with a “look out, squares!” rating of PG-13. Jump back!

Director Ayer confirmed that his dangerous-as-hell flick was shooting for that rating from the go, probably because no other rating could handle the degree of blowing your mind in which this movie engages. “We were always going to hit the PG-13 rating,” he says, the heat from his dangerously profane fire practically licking EW’s microphone. “But the film is meant to be that. It’s got edge, and it’s got attitude. And it’s got its own voice…There’s a lot in the film that’s going to surprise people.” Truly, people will be surprised by much of this film’s bold attitude, unless their threshold for surprise requires hearing characters say the word “fuck” more than once.

The MPAA obviously agreed, saying the rating was due to “sequences of violence and action throughout, disturbing behavior, and suggestive content and language.” Oh, it’s gonna suggest the hell out of some language and content, letting your mind fill in the blanks of all that awesome violence and language you’re not going to see or hear onscreen. Meanwhile, Deadpool continues to be the highest-grossing R-rated film in history. “Yeah, whatever. F that,” retorts Suicide Squad, because, hey, language.
