Suits star Meghan Markle signs on for long-running, incredibly expensive reality series

Actress Meghan Markle—best known to American audiences for the seven seasons she spent on USA’s Suits—signed a contract this week to join one of the planet’s longest-running reality shows, making a public appearance today affirming her commitment to a co-starring role in The British Royal Family. Unlike most reality shows, which tend to operate on shoestring budgets, TBRF has almost shockingly deep pockets, something exemplified in the roster of guest star appearances at today’s Royal Wedding special, which included Oprah, George Clooney, and several of those sorts of reality show stars who are mostly famous just for being famous and showing up to wave a bit at big public events.

The filming was also attended by several of Markle’s old Suits co-stars (including Gina Torres, Gabriel Macht, Patrick J. Adams, and more), supporting her as she makes the transition from scripted to unscripted content. The actress’ past credits also include small roles in Horrible Bosses and the Fox TV show Fringe; this new gig, meanwhile, has the potential to be the role of a lifetime, complete with options for a number of follow-up specials, including The Royal Baby, The Royal Jubilee, and Queen Elizabeth’s Big Bonkers 93rd Birthday Bash.
