Sunday’s presidential debate is coming to a theater near you
The 2016 U.S. Presidential election is a surreal spectacle, and not just because one of the two people vying for the most powerful job on Earth is in the WWE Hall of Fame. And it’s about to get even more so, as sitting back and eating popcorn while Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton debate each other is about to transcend GIFs and become literal reality. According to Deadline, this coming Sunday’s presidential debate at Washington University in St. Louis will be simulcast into 206 Regal Cinemas theaters across America, rendering politics’ transformation into entertainment complete.
Regal Entertainment Group Chief Content and Programming Officer Steve Bunnell echoes this sentiment, saying in a statement, “While our auditoriums feature the likes of Batman V. Superman or Alien Vs. Predator, we are excited to offer voters a chance to watch Clinton vs. Trump as they go head-to-head on the big screen.”On the upside, though, the screenings will be free, and participating theaters will be running specials on popcorn and soda. Whether fiddles will be available at each location, or whether patrons will have to bring their own, is unknown at this time.
