It might be time to accept that Turner Broadcasting’s Super Deluxe brand—home to a lot of very strange short-form and web content over the years—might just be sort of generally cursed. The comedy shingle has died once before, when it got absorbed by the wider Adult Swim organization back in 2008, and now, wouldn’t you know it, it’s dead again here in 2018. (Happy anniversary!)
Deadline reports that Turner is shuttering the brand, which it relaunched in 2015 with an eye on often explicitly political content, like the time they got former Mexican president Vicente Fox to criticize Donald Trump, or their various attempts to be C-SPAN for the easily amused and possibly high. They also indulged in all sorts of entertainingly weird web experiments, like the time they hosted a live telenovela on Facebook (complete with audience votes to determine the outcomes of scenes) and tortured a guy with robots for fun.
But sadly, not even the highs of robot torture can last forever, as Super Deluxe is now, once again, dead. The news comes at a weird time for the comedy label, which had just started branching out into full-length shows, including an adaptation of popular online oddity Don’t Hug Me, I’m Scared.
