Super Troopers 2 is coming out on the big weed day
The original Super Troopers movie from the Broken Lizard guys was partly a goofy movie about goofy cops, but it was also largely a goofy movie about smoking those good drugs and saying weird stuff about snozzberries to goofy cops. With a crowdfunded sequel on the way now, the filmmakers have decided to throw in a subtle shoutout to fans of both the first movie and marijuana cigarettes by announcing that Super Troopers 2 will be released on none other than April 20, 2018—a date known colloquially as “the big weed day.” This comes from Variety, which also notes that this will be a full 16 years since the first movie had its premiere.
We don’t know much about the sequel other than that original director Jay Chandrasekhar will be directing, with the other members of the aforementioned Broken Lizard comedy troupe—Kevin Heffernan, Steve Lemme, Paul Soter, and Erik Stolhanske—reprising their roles from the first movie. They’ll also be joined by Rob Lowe, who is playing a former hockey player and current mayor of a town on the Quebec border.
