After Eric Kripke’s proposed adaptation of Neil Gaiman’s Sandman went the way of all Sandman adaptations back in March, the Supernatural creator has now turned his attentions to another DC title: Deadman. The story of Boston Brand, a murdered trapeze artist who’s given the power to possess any living body he wants, helping to solve their own problems in the process—sort of a paranormal Quantum Leap, if you will, minus Dean Stockwell making horny remarks. Of course, Deadman has been rumored for adaptation before, first as a Guillermo del Toro-produced film and then as a TV show for TNT, with neither project getting very far beyond the early development stage. And despite CW president Mark Pedowitz’s recent comments that finding a new superhero show to replace Smallville remains a priority, the fact remains that history is littered with sad, albeit amusing reminders of aborted DC television adaptations. But who knows—maybe we’ll all be meeting back here in six months to bitch about how the new Deadman’s big red collar just isn’t big or red enough, damn it.
