Surfer Blood belatedly ring in the New Year with a new video, tour dates

With a new album, 1000 Palms, on the horizon, it’s time for a new video from Surfer Blood. Below, The A.V. Club is premiering the clip for “I Can’t Explain,” a color-splashed and slightly wiggly romp with a cast of what appears to be hundreds. As the group’s John Paul Pitts told us, the clip—which is about the events of a New Year’s Eve party, but sped up—only came together with the help of the band’s family and friends, a lot of who just “wanted an opportunity to throw cake at each other in their favorite bar.” Pitts also notes he “had to shower and mop the floor three times after,” which sounds about right.

Surfer Blood hits the road this summer, with a full rundown of the group’s 30-odd date tour below. Fans in the New York area specifically should check out the group’s special Bowery Ballroom show on May 12, which is a benefit for the group’s guitarist, Thomas Fekete, who is currently undergoing treatment for cancer. Guests on that show include Cults, Pop Etc., We Are Scientists, Julianna Barwick, Marnie Stern, and more.

1000 Palms is available to pre-order now via iTunes.
