Surviving members of N.W.A. plot reunion tour with Eminem
With the biopic Straight Out Of Compton set to hit theaters on August 14, it’s been revealed in a recent joint interview with Dr. Dre and Ice Cube in the Hollywood Reporter that the surviving members of N.W.A. are planning a reunion tour of Europe this summer. Eminem would fill in for the departed Easy-E, a move that makes sense given his long personal and professional history of collaboration with Dr. Dre. “We don’t have anything settled yet with everyone’s schedule but we think it can create a lot of buzz,” Universal Pictures chairman Donna Langley says in the understatement of the century.
Ice Cube already staged his own, smaller-scale reunion of the group last month at the Los Angeles BET Experience, performing the tracks “8 Ball,” “Straight Outta Compton,” “Chin Check,” and “Fuck tha Police” alongside fellow N.W.A. members MC Ren and DJ Yella. He looks set to do the same at Riot Fest in Chicago on Friday, September 11th.
In the same interview, Dre also took time to discuss the murder of Terry Carter, a crime allegedly committed by rap mogul (and his former Death Row Records label boss) Suge Knight that occurred just off the set of the biopic. “I was there. But I was just leaving, so I didn’t know what happened until I was halfway home,” he recalled. “It’s just a really unfortunate incident. Maybe [Knight] was looking for trouble. I don’t know.”
No dates for the tour have been confirmed.
