SVU’s Christopher Meloni to hunt for treasure with Amy Schumer and Goldie Hawn

As we’ve previously reported, Amy Schumer and Goldie Hawn are set to star in a movie tentatively titled Mother/Daughter that’s about a woman and her mother getting kidnapped while on vacation in Brazil. The script was written by The Heat and Ghostbusters writer Katie Dippold, and it’s supposedly inspired by her own relationship with her mother (though the two of them probably never got kidnapped). In case that storyline isn’t interesting enough on its own, though, Deadline is now reporting that former Law & Order: SVU star Christopher Meloni will be appearing in the film as a treasure hunter who has recently been diagnosed with terminal cancer. How does that connect to Schumer and Hawn getting kidnapped? We have no idea! That’s what makes news like this so thrilling. It could go anywhere!

Also, in case it wasn’t clear, this movie about a woman and her mom getting kidnapped while an unrelated man searches for treasure to distract himself from his cancer diagnosis is going to be a comedy. Unlike most kidnappings and cancer diagnoses, it’ll have jokes, laughs, and maybe Meloni will even get a chance to hump a fridge. On a related note, the film is being directed by 50/50’s Jonathan Levine, who has some experience finding comedy in a terminal cancer diagnosis.
