Sweetgreen is naming a salad after Kendrick Lamar
Rapper Kendrick Lamar has earned rave reviews and an ever-growing fan base with his work, which includes two terrific LPs, Good Kid, M.A.A.D City and To Pimp A Butterfly. But one thing he doesn’t have—at least not yet—is a salad named after him. According to MTV News, that changes on Thursday, when all 29 Sweetgreen locations in New York, Washington, D.C., Maryland, Virginia, Massachusetts, and Pennsylvania will begin selling “Beets Don’t Kale My Vibe,” a pun that lies somewhere between amazing and inexcusable. Lamar is headlining Sweetgreen’s Sweetlife Festival, which takes place May 30 and 31, so the chain is honoring him all month with a salad composed of “shredded local kale, roasted chicken, goat cheese, organic wild rice, and flash roasted beets, which are marinated in balsamic vinegar, extra virgin olive oil, and a hint of honey.” Through Sweetgreen’s website, you can also order a tote boasting the salad name that will make you feel straight out of Compton.
We eagerly await next year’s Sweetlife Festival, which Drake will hopefully headline so that East Coasters can order “Take Kale,” “Started From The Broccoli,” or even “Make Me Salad,” because Sweetgreen is bound to get lazy at some point.
