Syfy celebrates Friday the 13th with a Nightmare On Elm Street marathon
…12, 13 you’ll never be seen—again! Everyone remembers the classic nursery rhyme from the Nightmare On Elm Street series, and the Syfy channel is celebrating Nightmare Feddy’s birthday (a.k.a. Friday the 13, a.k.a. this coming Friday) with an all-day marathon of the maniac—who, as every horror fan knows, is based on the local legend of Cropsey—and his best chills and kills.
The marathon will kick off with Wes Craven’s New Nightmare, the 1994 meta-remake of John Carpenter’s original classic that featured Nightmare Feddy working as a stuntman in Hollywood named, get this, ”Freddy!” It’s a decidedly different take on Hal Needham’s Hooper.
SyFy, in addition to the 1979 original (which didn’t even feature Feddy, but instead his father!), will also be running A Nightmare On Elm Street 2: Feddy’s Revenge (The Empire Strikes Back of Feddy films), A Nightmare On Elm Street 3-D: Dream Warriors, featuring a young Bill Maher, The Dream Master, wherein Feddy finally dons the classic ski mask, and the 1989 pro-life propaganda piece The Dream Child. Unfortunately the loose Bay Of Blood remake Feddy’s Dread and Feddy vs. Angela, where Feddy takes on the villain from the Sleepaway Camp series, are absent from the lineup.
The Nightmare films have struck terror into the hearts of “naughty” Cub Scouts for more than 30 years, as well as jumpstarting the Hollywood careers of Jsu Garcia, Jason Alexander, and Vanna White. Old “Sharp Hand Joe” himself became a pop-culture icon, his gruesome, melted, visage emblazoned on pajamas, lunch boxes, and an infamous action figure from Sungold that became the bane of Tipper Gore and parents’ groups across America.
Feddy is warning you not to go out tonight, as the marathon kicks off at 7 a.m. ET this Friday. Like the poster says: This Friday the 13th, you won’t have to go to Texas for a chainsaw massacre!
