Syfy developing shows based on 12 Monkeys and Wizard Of Oz (again)
Syfy is developing a raft of new projects on the Battlestar Galactica model of a made-for-TV movie that doubles as a backdoor pilot, with the possibility of 10-episode seasons to follow. The network's latest such project is an adaptation of Terry Gilliam's seemingly unadaptable time-travel puzzler 12 Monkeys, with a script by two of the writers behind Nikita and Terra Nova. It's just the latest attempt by Syfy to adapt a movie into a weekly series, after previously considering shows based on Legion, The Adjustment Bureau, and even Waterworld.
Along those same lines, Syfy is following up the Zooey Deschanel-starring Tin Man by developing yet another Wizard of Oz adaptation, this one a miniseries from Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter director Timur Bekmambetov. Titled Warriors Of Oz, it's set in "a post-apocalyptic future Oz where [the hero] must team up with three other warriors, Heartless, Brainless, and Coward, in order to defeat the evil Wizard who has enslaved the land." Yes, those are the real character's names.
