Syfy has ordered a pilot from Ben Affleck and Matt Damon’s Pearl Street Productions about a time when corporations have seemingly unlimited influence that is, believe it or not, not set in 2015. Incorporated follows an executive who must change his identity in order to navigate a cutthroat corporate world to save the woman he loves. According to Variety, the dystopian setting will explore current trends like the roles corporations and private interests play in Congress and the accumulation of fantastic wealth by a very small group of people, two of whom are Ben Affleck and Matt Damon.
Syfy President Dave Howe says that Incorporated is “an electrifying example of what science fiction does best: holding a mirror to present realities and projecting forward to a recognizable future”—unlike some other futures that predict the existence of hoverboards and flying cars just seven months from now. Surely, the continued shrinking of the middle class and questions about the legitimacy of a government hot-boxed by lobbyists is a much more reliable forecast.
